Wildfire Research Coordination Act of 2026
To direct the Secretary of Defense to enter into an interagency memorandum of understanding for coordination on research and technology priorities relating to fire science, and for other purposes.
This bill proposes to establish an interagency collaboration between the Department of Defense and other relevant agencies to focus on research and technology priorities for fire science. Specifically, it directs the Secretary of Defense to create a memorandum of understanding to enhance coordination on these efforts.
The bill would affect federal agencies involved in wildfire research and technology development. This includes the Department of Defense, the Department of Agriculture, and others. The aim is to streamline efforts, share resources, and improve outcomes in managing and preventing wildfires.
As of July 30, 2026, the bill has been introduced and referred to the House Committee on Armed Services, along with the Committees on Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Science, Space, and Technology. This is the first step in the legislative process, where the bill will be reviewed and possibly marked up by these committees before further action.
