Spot the Fakes Act
To require AI-generated content is labeled as AI-generated with the metadata of the output or by other technological means, and for other purposes.
This bill aims to ensure that any content created by artificial intelligence (AI) is clearly labeled as such. It proposes that this labeling be done through metadata or other technological methods, making it easy to identify AI-generated content. This would affect everyone who uses or consumes digital content, helping people understand whether the content they are engaging with is AI-generated or not.
The bill is very new, having just been introduced on July 2, 2026. It was introduced in the House and then immediately referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce for further consideration. This means that it is in its initial stages and has not yet been reviewed or voted on by the full House.
As of now, the key action has been its introduction and referral. Moving forward, the committee will likely review the bill, hold hearings, and possibly make amendments before deciding whether to send it back to the House for a vote.
