The Public Service Accountability Act
To amend chapter 131 of title 5 to prohibit Members of Congress and their spouses and dependents from owning or trading stocks, and for other purposes.
The Public Service Accountability Act, or HB9429, was introduced on June 24, 2026. This bill aims to change the rules for Members of Congress and their families by banning them from owning or trading stocks. This is meant to ensure that lawmakers make decisions without personal financial interests in mind.
This change would affect all current and future Members of Congress, as well as their spouses and dependents. By preventing them from owning or trading stocks, the bill seeks to reduce potential conflicts of interest and promote fairness in legislative decisions.
HB9429 was introduced on the same day it was referred to several House committees, including Oversight and Government Reform, House Administration, and the Judiciary. These committees will now review the bill and decide how to move it forward in the legislative process.
