Protect Our Homes Act
To amend the Small Business Act to establish a program under which the Small Business Administration may make supplemental disaster loans to homeowner associations to repair common areas damaged by disasters and implement disaster mitigation measures, and for other purposes.
This bill, HB9159, aims to change the Small Business Act by allowing the Small Business Administration (SBA) to provide additional disaster loans to homeowner associations. These loans would help fix common areas like parks or playgrounds that have been damaged by disasters. It also supports efforts to prevent future damage, known as disaster mitigation. This change would help homeowner associations recover faster and be better prepared for future disasters.
The bill would mainly affect homeowner associations, particularly those in areas prone to natural disasters. By providing financial support, it helps these associations maintain and improve the shared spaces in their communities, making them safer and more resilient. This is especially important for the residents who depend on these areas for their daily lives.
HB9159 was introduced on June 4, 2026, and has been sent to the House Committee on Small Business for further review. This is the first step in the legislative process, where the bill will be examined, discussed, and possibly revised before any vote takes place.
